Thank you, Chicago, for six years of hell
“Ensconced in his downtown office, Blagojevich gave no sign he was contemplating resigning, and dispatched his spokeswoman, Kelley Quinn, to say it was “business as usual” in his 16th-floor suite, situated a few blocks from Obama’s transition headquarters.
“At the end of the day, the top priority for our office is to serve the people, and we have not lost sight of that, nor will we lose sight of that,” Quinn said.
His attorney said Tuesday that he is innocent, and a resignation might make him appear guilty. The office also gives him a certain amount of clout, which can help him raise money for his defense. And he may need the salary — federal prosecutors say their wiretaps also caught Blagojevich complaining about his financial problems.”
Wow. Who is the IL government serving? The people of Chicago and their own pockets? Blagojevich is the most corrupt piece of trash to ever govern a state. Does he really think he is going to get away with trying to sell Obama’s seat? Not to mention the numerous bribes and the siphoning of IL pension funds. When Blago took over in office after the infamous George Ryan, he inheritted the largest state debt in IL history. He also promised to reevaluate spending and make appropriate budget cuts to help alleviate the problem and budget cuts, he has done. Blago has cut millions in funds for HIV/AIDS treatment and research as well as millions more that funded substance abuse and prevention. He has also cut funds for others social service programs as well as youth education programs such as 4-H and FFA that have always been supported by state government. Despite all of these well thought out budget cuts, the IL state budget is still $2.5 billion to $3 billion more than the state can afford. But where, you may ask, is all of this other going? You might want to check the pockets of Blago, his advisors, and his only ally in the senate, Emil Jones. After Jones became senate president, Blago created a “special salary class” which gave Jones’ wife (who was unqualifingly appointed to a state position) a $70,000 pay rise two months after she began her job. All of Jones’ other relatives were also appointed to state positions and given unreasonable pay raises. Hopefully during the feds’ investigation of Blago, they uncover all the details of every corrupt IL official so that justice can finally be served for the people of Illinois.
